Geely is gearing up for a global expansion with its latest model, the EX5, which brings a host of innovations, primarily thanks to its advanced "Short Blade" battery technology. This electric SUV promises a smarter, safer, and more efficient driving experience, redefining drivers' expectations worldwide.
EX5: European Market Debut
The EX5 model made its first appearance at the Automechanika exhibition in Frankfurt, where it captured the attention of industry professionals and journalists alike. This electric SUV is built on the GEA architecture. With its aerodynamic design boasting a drag coefficient of just 0.269 and compact dimensions (length 4,615 mm, width 1,901 mm, height 1,670 mm), it offers optimal space for both passengers and luggage.
Advanced Battery Technology
One of the main attractions of the EX5 model is its latest generation "Short Blade" battery. This battery uses lithium-iron-phosphate cells and offers improved safety, longer lifespan, faster charging, and better performance at low temperatures. Geely offers two capacity variants – 49.52 kWh with a range of 440 km and 60.22 kWh with a range of up to 530 km according to the Chinese CLTC standard.
Rapid Charging and Endurance
One of the exceptional features of the "Short Blade" batteries is their ability to charge from 10% to 80% in just 17 minutes, which is 9 minutes faster than conventional long batteries. The battery also handles extreme temperature conditions well – during tests at -30°C, it retained 90.54% of its capacity, making it an ideal choice for cold climate regions.
Safety First
Geely places great emphasis on the safety of its batteries. The "Short Blade" battery has undergone a series of rigorous tests, including exposure to fire at temperatures up to 1,000°C, corrosion tests when submerged in seawater, and impact tests at -35°C. Thanks to its innovative design, including an aluminum foil layer and patented frame, the battery withstood even a standard military ammunition shot without catching fire.
EX5 Infotainment and Interior
The Geely EX5 is equipped with modern technologies in its interior as well. The driver has access to a 10.2-inch display and a 15.4-inch infotainment system running on the Flyme Auto operating system developed in collaboration with Meizu. A 16-speaker Flyme Audio system ensures a premium sound experience for all passengers.
Global Expansion
The Geely EX5 will soon be introduced to markets in Thailand, Indonesia, Norway, Australia, and other countries. With this move, the Chinese manufacturer aims to strengthen its position in the global electric vehicle market and offer a competitive model that meets the demands of modern drivers for space, driving dynamics, and advanced technologies.
The EX5 proves that Geely not only keeps pace with the competition but can surpass it in many aspects thanks to its innovations and continuous progress in the field of electric vehicles. In the European market, we will likely see it under the Volvo EX5 brand. In China, its price is set at approximately €17,000, but a higher price can be expected in Europe. The EX5 shares a platform with the Volvo EX30 model, but the EX5 will be larger. Therefore, it can be assumed that its price will not be lower than that of the Volvo EX30, which is currently selling for about €36,000. The vehicle is likely to appear in Europe at the beginning of 2025.
